Simon is a Ph.D. candidate in political philosophy. His second field is comparative politics and he has a minor in cultural studies. His research interests include political theories of memory, political theories of emotion, Marxism, critical theory, and theories of social movements. He holds a B.A. in Philosophy (Tsinghua University, 2013) and an M.A. in Politics (NYU, 2015). Simon’s dissertation studies the political theory of collective memories of the Cultural Revolution. He is interested in how various interpretations of the Cultural Revolution demonstrate legitimating stories of the state, pathologies of the Chinese society, and political possibilities for China’s future.
