I am an assistant professor of methodology and international relations in the Department of Political Science at Indiana University. Prior to joining IU, I was a political scientist at RAND, where I worked in the Special Mission Analysis group and conducted research for the Department of Defense. I earned my PhD from Michigan State University and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Institute for Public Policy and Social Research. My research explores how both state and non-state actors strategically use violence and media to influence the public during war. I leverage a variety of methods to study this domain, including both large-scale computational text analysis and a range of econometric models. Beyond numerous RAND reports, my work is published or forthcoming in the Journal of Politics, International Studies Quarterly, Political Behavior, Civil Wars, and International Interactions.
