Six-year program
High-achieving undergraduate Political Science majors who matriculate with sufficient Advanced Placement or other advanced-standing credits may be able to earn a B.A. degree and a J.D. degree from the Indiana University Maurer School of Law in six years, rather than the usual seven. If eligible, you will apply for admission to study in the law school’s J.D. program during your third undergraduate year, and must have taken the LSAT exam prior to submitting your admission application. You must also apply and be eligible for the IU Pathways Scholarship Program, including the requirement of completing all undergraduate degree requirements within three years.
Through the Pathways Program, recipients of the Dean's, Provost's, or IU Global Engagement Scholarship may apply the fourth year of their award toward their Maurer Law School tuition. You must fulfill all the criteria for admission into the Maurer School of Law, and admission to the J.D. program will follow the Law School’s usual admission procedures, including character and fitness requirements.
If you are interested in this opportunity, you should contact a Political Science advisor when you first register for classes upon admission to IU to begin selecting appropriate courses that will enable the completion of undergraduate requirements in the three-year timeframe. In recent years, the median undergraduate GPA for Maurer’s entering class was a 3.72 and the median LSAT was at the 85% percentile.
