Sungsik Kang is a Ph.D. student in the Department of Political Science at Indiana University. His research interests center on contemporary changes in democratic political institutions, particularly political parties. Specifically, his primary research focuses on the rise of populist parties from a comparative perspective. By examining recent changes in party-voter linkages, party structure, and party ideology across various democratic countries, he studies what the success of populist parties implies for democracy.
He received his B.A. and M.A. in Political Science from Seoul National University. From 2020 to 2023, during his military service, he served as an assistant professor at the Korea Air Force Academy, where he taught several courses on comparative politics.
