Simon Sihang Luo (Ph.D., Political Science, Indiana University Bloomington, 2022) has published an article, "Reawakening a Revolutionary Party: The Ancient and Modern Princes in Wang Hui’s Political Theory," in the American Political Science Review. Simon's article reconstructs Chinese political thinker Wang Hui's party theory to intervene in current theoretical and empirical debates about depoliticization and party renewal. This article is part of Simon's book project, which is based on his dissertation, "The Afterlives of a Revolution: Memories of the Cultural Revolution and Political Possibilities in Contemporary China."

This dissertation investigates the various uses of memories of the Chinese Cultural Revolution (1966-1976) in contemporary Chinese public and theoretical debates. His dissertation committee includes Jeffrey C. Isaac (chair), William E. Scheuerman, Hussein Banai, and Gardner Bovingdon. Simon is currently a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Stanford Civics Initiative, where he teaches courses on Chinese political thought, and memory and democracy.
